Dr. Mahesh Rao

Dr. Mahesh Rao is a Research Associate in the Department of Forestry and Wildland Resources at Humboldt State University. His research experience over the past 15+ years has involved ecological applications of Remote Sensing/GIS/GPS within agro- and forested-ecosystems. Much of his collaborative research work with USDA-ARS/NRCS/FSA focused on mapping and evaluating ecological benefits of conservation programs (CRP, CEAP, etc.), particularly related to soil and water quality. More recently, he was involved with USFS in mapping serpentine soils, snags, and estimating biomass using LiDAR remote sensing data. Currently, he is involved with mapping the spatio-temporal changes associated with the drought in the Central Valley/Sierra Nevada region in California using Landsat OLI data. Additionally, Mahesh's other interests include outreach activities such as conducting workshops and training sessions.

Mahesh received his Ph. D in Environmental Science - Geography from Oklahoma State University, while his master's degree in Horticultural Science, and bachelor's degree in Agricultural Sciences were received from Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University, India.
